Last Day’s Timelapse
2026 Summary – June 28
What an incredible weekend we’ve had on the lake! After weeks of incubation and fending off eagles and snapping turtles, we are thrilled to celebrate the successful hatching of two healthy chicks. The first little one made its appearance late Friday, June 27 and its sibling followed on Saturday, June 28’th.
It has been a joyous few days. Viewers on the live cam have been treated to some truly magical moments, watching the chicks take their first swims, learn to safely ride on their parents’ backs, and accept their very first minnows. In a rare and wonderful surprise, the family has even continued to use the nesting raft as a home base and resting spot throughout the weekend rather than leaving it immediately.
This beautiful outcome is a direct testament to the hard work of the Lake Kanasatka Association. Its efforts in partnering with the Loon Preservation Committee, supporting the live camera, and deploying the protective rope boundaries have kept this family safe from passing boat traffic while allowing viewers worldwide to witness their journey. Over 1000 people watched, over 12,000 streaming sessions.
The chicks will soon leave the raft for good to learn the ways of the water. As the lake gets busier for the upcoming holiday, let’s continue to give them at least 150′ of space to themselves . Thank you all for making this unforgettable season possible!
