Calling for Volunteers – Join the Team! 

Happy Spring! It is fast becoming the time of year we get excited to get back outdoors and enjoy our beautiful lake.

  • Throughout the winter months we have continued to work on the implementation of the Watershed Management Plan (WMP)
  • We currently have a number of lake residents actively working on implementing remediation projects on their properties
  • We have ramped up our communication campaign on best management practices
  • We have completed steps necessary to fundraise in NH and started to form a fundraising team
  • We have begun applying for grants, and
  • We have planned how to address the substantial work ahead of us.

We will need many volunteers to help implement the WMP.  This approach is detailed in the WMP and will consist of a number of focused teams throughout the process.

We are currently looking for members to join the Kanasatka Community Outreach Team and the Data Team. Responsibilities of these two teams are as follows:

Kanasatka Community Outreach Team

6-8 individuals who will receive training and resources regarding best management practices (BMPs) for storm water runoff issues. Volunteers will need to be available 2-3 hours a week to help serve as a point of contact for local private property owners.

Trained community outreach team volunteers will be knowledgeable about lake-friendly improvements as set forth in the BMPs from NH Lakes (including LakeSmart), UNH and NHDES. The first steps are the hardest. In providing resources to property owners and groups or associations who have questions and would like some help and guidance, they can help property owners identify possible next steps as they consider how to assess their property and make lake-friendly changes. Property owners will be encouraged to voluntarily share information on their improvements.

Data Team

1-3 individuals interested in volunteering for 1-2 hours/week as needed to analyze, summarize, and manage data.

Data collection is needed from homeowners who have expended money and time on remediating their properties to allow us to quantify individual contributions to satisfy matching grant requirements. This team would also compile and report on key indicators to measure how we are progressing on implementation objectives as laid out in the WMP.
